Background clarification and agency connection

  

You may have been contacted by one of our competitors who have taken great delight in informing you that I am a director at my wife’s pharmacy recruitment agency and that this represents a conflict of interest. I can see how you might be inclined to agree but allow me to try and re-frame the scenario a little….

I started working in Medical Recruitment over 20 years ago and have worked for numerous medical recruitment agencies at varying levels from starting desks to operations director and MD. I have never tried to hide this experience and if you look at my LinkedIn profile you will see that I was the founder of Bluestones Medical which is a large nursing agency, as well as a Director and Shareholder in its holding company Bluestones Investment Group.

First of all, there are some very strict laws around the use of data and we are contractually and legally forbidden to distribute or share any information with anyone outside of Recruitment Industry Solutions. That covers the legal side. Second to that, I have invested a considerable amount of time working on and in Recruitment Industry Solutions and neither myself, nor any of the nurses or staff working in Recruitment Industry Solutions would jeopardise that, the accreditations we have or the brand we are building, for the sake of contacting a candidate about anything other than the OH Screening service we are providing.

We follow the GDPR regulations to the letter and adhere to the Data Protection Act guidelines. This has been independently checked and approved in the process of our obtaining SEQOHS accreditation which is a professionally-led accreditation scheme based on a set of standards for occupational health services in the UK and beyond. Occupational health services must demonstrate they meet the standards of the SEQOHS, which is managed by the RCP on behalf of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, before they can be awarded SEQOHS accreditation. 

Our practical and online training is going through commercial alignment to CSTF, some modules which have already been approved for commercial alignment, not just self-declared, another process which takes time, effort and financial obligation which would not be worth jeopardising.

I know the agency space well, so I feel perfectly placed to know how protective agencies are about their candidates, and rightly so, as well have a first-hand appreciation of the expense and lengths that are gone to with regards to the attraction and retention of these candidates.

I myself have been a customer, buying services for years from companies who are now direct competitors in the training and occupational health screening market. As an agency owner / director I didn’t have much choice when it came to the provision of FTPs or FTWs as some people call them. So I just paid the bill assuming we were being looked after with regards to price and value.

RIS was born from these frustrations, including having to find a considerable lump sum to buy credits with small discounts offered for same day payments, and I have worked hard along side a team of people to provide agencies with a choice and at the very least, give them an opportunity to compare services / costs.

•             kept for no longer than is necessary

•             handled in a way that ensures appropriate security, including protection against unlawful or unauthorised processing, access, loss, distribution, destruction or damage

This is in our SLA / contract which is signed by all parties when you engage with RIS.
